Testing the Waters of Lac Leman

In preparation for my upcoming move to Geneva, I'm in for a one week consulting trip to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation or the Secretariat). It has been an interesting series of meetings, training and meals, and I think there are some challenges ahead that will keep me well busy starting next month.

Tonight, a coworker helped me find the way downtown on a tram. I got to explore Old Town, Planpalais, and some of the center of town. This included a gander at the famous Jet D'Eau, as well as a several hour walk around the city... in fact, about an extra 5km back to the hotel near the airport.
Geneva is a very clean city. Even in the less fancy neighborhoods, it's clean. They have separate sets of lights for bicycles, and scooters are everywhere. It should be very easy to get around, though I may rethink 4" platform heels for the next wander. The next personal challenge will be finding housing. I am told by many that it is difficult to find housing, and I would really like to make a good choice, landing in a neighborhood as nice as Del Ray. Desmond may be an additional challenge, and I think both of us will be wistful for the fenced back yard that makes going out so easy. He should make a charming Swiss doggie, though. I even saw one in the airport. And of course, I have some apprehension about the flight over here, but if Claire's puppy can make it to Saudi Arabia, Desi should be able to make it to lovely Switzerland.
